Welcome to our dedicated Sixth Form Centre.  We have an excellent reputation for achievement, with a 100% pass rate in 16 subjects in 2008.

AS/A Levels

The Sixth Form Centre (SFC) offers the following AS/A Level subjects in three 1½ hour sessions per week as part of a full-time programme:

AS/A Level English Language
AS/A Level English Literature

AS/A Level Ethics & Philosophy

AS Use of Maths

 

The subjects are constituents of a course consisting of a minimum of three subjects, and tutorial, enrichment and Key Skills sessions each week.  Adults wishing to follow an academic pathway may be interested in the information on our Access to HE course.

Those wanting to study subject areas out of interest may wish to look at Language courses at New College Durham or Lifelong Learning courses at Newcastle University, Durham University, the University of Sunderland, the Open University or the University of the 3rd Age. 

GCSEs

The Sixth Form Centre has a full-time programme of GCSEs consisting of two 1½ hour sessions for each subject each week plus tutorial, enrichment and Key Skills.  The subjects include:

GCSE Citizenship (short course)
GCSE English
GCSE Maths
GCSE Philosophy & Ethics
GCSE Science
GCSE Sociology

There are September start evening classes in the core subjects.  These are currently:

GCSE Science (Single Applied) Monday 6.30 – 8.30 pm
GCSE English Tuesday 6.00 - 8.00pm and 6.30 – 8.30 pm
GCSE Maths Monday or Tuesday or Wednesday 6.30 – 8.30 pm

There are also some GCSE Maths Day classes:

GCSE Maths Mature Wednesday 10.30 am – 12.30 pm.
