What will the bootcamp cover?
The skills bootcamp in modern methods of construction will provide benefits to both participants and employers alike. It will equip participants with relevant, current skills and knowledge necessary to work in the modern construction industry.
Employers will benefit from having a more skilled workforce, which will improve the quality and efficiency of their working environments. Additionally, the course will provide participants with a deeper understanding of sustainable construction practices, which is becoming increasingly important in the construction industry.
The bootcamp will be delivered at NCD’s main campus in Framwellgate Moor. Learning will take place in a variety of locations - two practical workshops, a theory classroom and employer site visits to see/compare methods of construction.

North East Institute of Technology: Retrofit Advisor

What will the bootcamp cover?
This bootcamp will be available to allow businesses to upskill staff in Construction to enable them to effectively advise customers on how to improve their energy ratings and viability to host an air source heat pump or alternative low carbon technologies to meet net zero targets through effective insultation and heat loss prevention strategies.
This will be a theoretical course that will be delivered in a classroom and will involve a portfolio of evidence at the workplace.

What will the bootcamp cover?
This bootcamp will be available to allow businesses to upskill staff in Construction to enable them to effectively assess properties and buildings to report on the viability to host an air source heat pump or alternative low carbon technologies to meet net zero targets through effective insultation and heat loss prevention strategies and document measures that need to be in place.
This will be a theoretical course that will be delivered in a classroom and will involve a portfolio of evidence at the workplace.
How long is the bootcamp?
This bootcamp is 72 hours over a period of 16 weeks.

Heat Pump Installation

What will the bootcamp cover?
This bootcamp in Air Source Heat Pump training will provide training to become fully qualified in the installation and service of ASHP systems.
This bootcamp includes the following subject areas:
- Water Regulations (1 Day)
- Energy Efficiency (1 Day)
- Legionella (1 Day)
- G3 Unvented (2 Days)
- ASHP Install & Maintenance (3 Days)

This bootcamp is 60 hours over a period of 8-12 weeks.

Waste Management in Green Construction

What will the bootcamp cover?
Sustainable waste management and recycling bootcamp will focus on the construction industry and upskilling construction staff to ensure waste sites comply with Environmental permitting regs and waste management regs.
Bootcamps learners will achieve an CIWM qualification, to be determined by the needs of the employers. This could be Level 3 or level 4.
How long is the bootcamp?
This bootcamp is 60 hours over a period of 14-16 weeks.

Level 3 Insulation and Building Treatment

What will the bootcamp cover?
Insulation & Building Treatments will focus on supporting you to attain fundamental and transferable practical skills with associated underpinning knowledge in the Insulation Industry including Health & Safety & Working Relationships. Method of delivery will be onsite assessment and training.

Domestic Retrofitting will focus on providing the training required to existing tradespersons to modify existing homes to improve energy and decrease energy costs. The main aim of this award is to re-skill and upskill the workforce with the skills and knowledge required to meet the demands of the Construction Industry and their Low Carbon agenda. Method of delivery will be Onsite assessment & Training.

Installation and Maintenance of Air Source Heat Pumps

What will the bootcamp cover?
This bootcamp will provide learners with the skills and knowledge to ensure they are designing and installing to the latest regulations to ensure the protection of persons, livestock and property, as well as the proper function of electrical installations.
Learners must have successfully completed Level 2 NVQ in Plumbing.

This bootcamp is 60 hours over 12 weeks.

This bootcamp provides the learner with skills to manage the installation of solar panels to provide hot water from a renewable energy source.

Electric Vehicle Charge Point Installation

What will the bootcamp cover?
This bootcamp brings together both domestic and commercial EV charge points installation techniques to provide the learner with the skills and knowledge for them to be able to work in both areas. In addition to the qualifications there will be non-accredited modules in designing installations.

Level 3 Electric Vehicle Maintenance and Repair

What will the bootcamp cover?
This bootcamp is designed for technicians who maintain, diagnose and repair high and low voltage operating systems on electric/hybrid vehicles. It contains the skills and knowledge required to work safely around a vehicles high and low voltage electrical system and electric drive train system, whilst carrying out repairs or maintenance. It also contains the knowledge and skills required to work safely around a vehicle that may have had damage to its high energy/electrical system. On completing this qualification, technicians will have gained knowledge of both low and high voltage technologies and an understanding of their dangers.

This bootcamp is 60 hours over 2 weeks.

Level 4 Electric Vehicle Maintenance and Repair

What will the bootcamp cover?
This bootcamp is designed for those personnel who in the course of their daily work are required to work ‘Live’ on the electric/hybrid vehicle powertrain. It contains the knowledge and skills required to work safely on Electric / Hybrid vehicles high voltage systems. On completing this qualification those personnel will have gained an extensive knowledge and skills level of high voltage technologies and their dangers.

Hydrogen Cars and Batteries

What will the bootcamp cover?
Hydrogen Safety awareness and risk assessments. The Governments recent Hydrogen strategy sets out the need to develop hydrogen competencies and knowledge for technicians to safely work on hydrogen fuel cell vehicles. This bootcamp will address this need.
Battery Development, deployment and recycling. This bootcamp will incorporate; Battery Fundamentals, lithium-ion battery manufacture and energy storages, Battery health and safety, repurposing and recycling.
How long is the bootcamp?
Delivery will last 10-12 weeks and be 60 GLH.

Mobile Air Conditioning EV

What will the bootcamp cover?
Mobile Air conditions is a safety related problem for the EV automotive sector as it introduces Heat Pump technology on these systems to both Heat and Cool the cabin space. ADAS is also emerging as a skill shortage area as the calibration and repair of these systems is a safety related area and is being addressed from a legal perspective for all repairers of all vehicle types including HGV.

Electric Vehicle charge point installation

What will the bootcamp cover?
This bootcamps covers the installation of dedicated conductive charging equipment for the charging of pure electric and plug-in hybrid electric road vehicles (PHEV) and includes the extended range of electric vehicles (E-REV). It covers the installation of both AC and DC charging equipment intended for plug-in electric vehicles (PEV) complying with BS EN 61851 and “The Code of Practice for Electric Vehicle Charging Equipment Installations”.
