How to make the text size of a website larger using your browser

If you find that the text size on this website is too small for you to comfortably read, you can use settings within your web browser to increase the text size to suit you. The settings are different depending on which web browser you are using, so please choose which set of instructions to follow accordingly.

Note that these instructions have been written for Windows-based systems but the options are often found in the same places for Mac versions of web browsers.

Within some browsers you can apply these settings in one of two ways:

  1. Temporarily - for the duration that you have the web browser open
  2. Permanently - every time you use the web browser

Both methods, where applicable, are detailed below.

Internet Explorer 7

From the Page menu, select the Text Size option, then select the preferred size.

Internet Explorer 6 and below

From the View menu, select the Text Size option, then select the preferred size.

Firefox 1.5 and above

Temporarily

From the View menu, select the Text Size option, then select the Increase option. This can be repeated to increase the size more if required.

Permanently

From the Tools menu, select Options, then select the Content tab. In the Fonts and Colours section, click the Advanced button, then within the Minimum Font Size box select the font size that you require and click OK to confirm your selection.

Note that versions of Firefox below 1.5 follow a slightly different process to increase text size permanently, but the option is still found within the Tools > Options section.

Opera 8/9

Text can either be increased using the zoom option, or by specifying a minimum font size.

Zoom

From the View menu, select the Zoom option, then select the preferred size.

Minimum Font Size

From the Tools menu, select the Preferences option. Select the Advanced tab, then the Fonts option, then within the Minimum Font Size box select the font size that you require and click OK to confirm your selection.

Note that versions of Opera below 8 follow a slightly different process to increase text size (within the File menu, Preferences option).

Safari

Temporarily

From the View menu, select option Make Text Bigger.

Permanently

From the Edit menu, select the Preferences option. Select the Appearance tab, and next to Standard Font click the Select button. Select the font size that you require and click OK to confirm your selection.
