Students from New College Durham have raised £233.00 for St Oswald’s Children’s Service by organising unusual and creative events. The Pathways and Living in the Community students have chosen St Oswald’s as their charity, as they wanted the money to benefit local children and their families.
Trevor Rogers, learning support lecturer said: “The students have really enjoyed fundraising for St Oswald’s. They have been very creative by making gifts and items to sell on their stalls and for raffles. They’ve also held breakfast time bacon buttie cafes and lunchtime tombola’s for the thousands of students that attend the college. We are thrilled with the amount raised so far.
“The next event the students have planned in is conjunction with other departments at the college. They intend to hold a fashion show which will feature clothes made entirely from recycled clothes and materials. It should be fascinating and we’re really looking forward to it.”
Viv Williamson, community fundraiser from St Oswald’s said: “The students have done a wonderful job and we are delighted to receive their donation. We’d like to say a huge thank you to all of the students who fundraised for us and to all those students and lecturers who bought the goods.
“St Oswald’s relies heavily on the support of our local community and we are very grateful to the students for working so hard for us.”
