Graphic Design students at New College Durham are hard at work to produce a brand design for a new and innovative local tour company Ride of Your Life.
First year students on the Foundation Degree course in Graphic Design, are designing a logo and company branding to be entered into a design competition and the winner will be chosen by Ride of your Life founders, Mark and Jo Wilson, from Spennymoor.
Ride of your Life offers unique chauffeur driven tours of the area on a motorcycle or three seat trike. Rather than go to an agency to design a company logo and branding, Mark decided to give some budding design students the opportunity to build up their portfolio and gain experience working on a live brief.
Mark’s son, Jamie, who studied on the National Diploma in Music at New College Durham initially came up with the idea. Mark said: “Jamie suggested asking some of the design students to produce a branding package and on contacting the college they seemed really keen and came up with the idea of making it a competition.”
The competition has been organised by Ray Birss, Curriculum Leader for Graphic Design and Media, at New College Durham. Ray said “We thought that holding a competition would be a good way to engage the students and the fact that the winning design will be used by a real company will look very impressive on their CV.”
