VIPs taste success at Skills Challenge

A local business leader, two broadcasters and a Big Brother contestant returned to college for the day on Thursday 13 November to celebrate Colleges Week by learning a new skill, and testing it out in a Cookery Skills Challenge, against two teams of New College Durham Students.

Students from Construction and Hair and Beauty demonstrated their culinary skills and each created a delicious dish for guests in the College’s Le Nouveau Restaurant. However, the students’ efforts were outshone by an outstanding Chicken Korma, produced by the winning team of VIP’s, which included Michael Mitchell, Director of Train to Gain at the Learning and Skills Council North East; Peter Grant, Presenter on  Durham FM; Mark Thorburn, Presenter on Metro Radio and  Liam McGough, a runner up on Big Brother 2007.

Lindsey Whiterod, Deputy Principal at New College Durham said, “We’re delighted at the success of the event and would like to thank our VIPs who demonstrated that no matter how much you have accomplished in your career, you can always improve yourself and learn something new”.
