Overview

Get a basic understanding of the German language and learn the most useful phrases to get you started.

This course will cover topics such as basic greetings, introducing yourself, talking about yourself, family and friends, numbers 1-50, nationalities, food and drink. You will also learn common verbs, words and adjectives in order to construct simple grammatical sentences.

Aims

This course aims to allow learners to increase their familiarity with simple German conversations and culture. You will be taught in an interactive, supportive and friendly environment. You will progress from entry level to Level 1 study through this programme.

Teaching & assessment

The teaching and assessment methods used are interactive to ensure learners have ample opportunities to practice their German in realistic contexts. Learners will receive feedback on their use of the language. You are advised to practice when not in class through independent learning. Both textbooks and video clips featuring German native speakers are used to aid learning. There is no formal examination for this course.

You could progress to Level 1 German at New College Durham.
