T-Level Teacher Assistant

You will hold five GCSEs at grade 5, including maths and English.

You will need to be able to commit to an industry placement of at least 45 days.

You will be invited to meet the team where you will be given details of the programmes available and you will have the opportunity to see the classrooms in which you will study.

You will be asked a series of questions so we can find out more about you and your career aspirations. Your parent/guardian is welcome to attend the interview with you.

This qualification is for you if you want to start a career in Teaching. This two-year T-Level course aims to provide you with the opportunity to apply your knowledge in a practical industry environment.

The course is designed for school leavers (aged 16) and is an ideal qualification if you are intending to progress directly to employment within the industry, to an apprenticeship or to higher education.

Teaching Assistants support children who need extra support, and help teachers plan learning activities and manage behaviour in the classroom.

In this role you could:

• help teachers prepare lesson materials and equipment
• get the classroom ready for lessons and clear away afterwards
• work with groups and individual pupils to make sure they understand their work and stay focussed
• watch, record and report pupils' progress to teachers
• supervise group activities, including outings and sports events
• provide a safe and healthy environment and follow safeguarding procedures
• help teachers manage class behaviour
• look after children who are upset or unwell
• lead classes with help from the teacher.

• Support the class teacher to enhance children’s education, individually and in groups
• Plan, provide and review educational opportunities in collaboration with teachers and other adults
• Safeguard and promote the health, safety and wellbeing of children and young people
• Recognise, adapt and respond to individual children’s needs, including those with special educational needs and disability (SEND), to support development and access to the curriculum.

Teaching will be a variety of classroom based, self-study and workplace learning activities. Assessment is both formative and summative. You will be taught the performance outcomes.

Formative assessment of learning will be through a range of methods including peer assessment, self-assessment and tutor assessment and aims to support your learning in preparation for summative assessment.

Summative assessment is undertaken through synoptic projects, an employer-set project and exams and is conducted by the awarding body.

Your industry placement is assessed through your performance in the workplace by your work-based supervisor and your tutor.

You will complete:

• Two externally set exams
• An Employer Set Project (ESP)
• One practical occupational specialism.

You will undertake a minimum of 315 hours of work placement in industry.

You will always perform to the best of your ability and conduct yourself in a professional manner as if an employee of your placement organisation.

This T-Level in Assisting Teaching has been developed with employers, professional bodies, universities and businesses to prepare you for the workplace to help you progress in the education and childcare sector.

You could work at a school or at a special needs school. You will support children who need extra support, and help teachers plan learning activities and manage behaviour in the classroom.
