Access to Higher Education
This course and has been designed to give mature students the skills and knowledge necessary to progress to a range of higher education courses. It is recognised throughout the country as an entry qualification for degrees and many professional courses. During the past few years our Access students have progressed to over 40 degree programmes at 15 different universities.
The Access to HE Health pathway provides the entry criteria for a variety of health related higher education qualifications including nursing, midwifery and paramedics (providing you also have GCSE maths and English).
The Access to HE Humanities and Social Science pathway is for progression to teaching degrees (science GCSE is also required), social work (GCSE or equivalent required in English and maths) and criminology, amongst others.
Helen fitted studying for the Access to HE qualification around her family commitments and has now progressed to a degree in Nursing at Northumbria University.
Carys-Iona described her time at New College Durham as fun, encouraging and inspiring. She is now working as a Speech and Language Therapist.
