New College Durham Students Celebrate A-Level Success
Students and staff from New College Durham’s Sixth Form Centre are celebrating another successful year for A-Level results which has seen even more students passing their courses and a further increase in high grades.
Students achieved a 100% pass rate in 19 subjects including Maths, Psychology, English Literature and Law. In addition, the number of students achieving high pass grades of A*-B has increased by 8.3% compared to last year.
A Level student Caitlin Watson, is heading to Newcastle University to study Psychology. She achieved AAA in Psychology, Biology and Chemistry. She said:
“The teachers at New College Durham were like friends – they were ridiculously supportive! I’m really ready to go to university. Studying at New College Durham has prepared me so much. I’m so excited to go to Newcastle University and study Psychology.”
Another student, Joss Atkins, joined New College Durham to study A Levels as a mature student, studying Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry and an Extended Project. She is on her way to achieving her career goal by studying Bio-chemistry at Newcastle. She said:
“There are so many things I liked about studying at New College Durham. I’ve studied A-Levels previously but after health problems went into a career of hairdressing and barbering. After moving to Durham I decided to give college another try. The staff and College have been so supportive and they have gone above and beyond to help me through my studies. I have type 1 diabetes and my life goal is to go into research and find a cure – now I can realise this goal!”
New College Durham students particularly excelled in Sociology, Biology, Further Mathematics and Law with 50% or more receiving high grades (A*-B).
Andrew Stephenson, Vice Principal at New College Durham, commented:
“We are absolutely delighted with this year’s results. They demonstrate the hard work and dedication of our students and staff. It’s fantastic to see the College’s A Level results continuing to improve year-on-year, ensuring our students can achieve their goals. We wish all our students the very best of luck as they embark on the next step of their journey.”
