Bursaries up to £1,200*
If you are in care, or a care leaver, or in receipt of income support or a disabled young person that receives Employment Support Allowance and Disability Living Allowance, under national guidance you will be considered eligible to receive a bursary of up to £1,200* per year.
All students must apply direct to the College for the bursary scheme, contact the Access Fund Administrator on 0191 375 4205 or email access.fund@newdur.ac.uk for an application form.
*This bursary cannot be combined with the Cash for College Rewards. In calculating the bursary, consideration will be taken of benefits already received from the College such as Flex and Travel; the cost of which will be deducted from the bursary.
Assistance with Childcare
Adults aged 20+
Money will be allocated to support childcare costs for students who can demonstrate hardship. All students aged 20 or over must apply direct to the College for assistance with childcare, contact the Access Fund Administrator on 0191 375 4205 or email access.fund@newdur.ac.uk for an application form.
Students aged 16-19
Students aged 16-19 may be eligible to apply for the Government’s ‘Care to Learn’ scheme. If you are a parent (mother or father) and you are caring for your own child(ren) and you use an Ofsted-registered childcare provider, you may be eligible for up to £160 per child per week.

Additional Funding (Hardship)
The College will seek to continue to support students who can demonstrate hardship. Money is available for emergency grants/loans and additional hardship payments to help with additional course materials and uniforms. All students must apply direct to the College for funding assistance, contact the Access Fund Administrator on 0191 375 4205 or email access.fund@newdur.ac.uk for an application form.
Discounted Gym Membership
Steps2Fitness is our Sports Complex which includes a state of the art Fitness Suite with over 30 machines, an Exercise Studio and a large Sports Hall, all accompanied by changing rooms, lockers and a Starbucks cafe to help create a complete professional sports environment. FREE Sports Activities
The Sports Hall and the Exercise Studio offers various classes over lunchtimes and after study free to students. New classes are coming all the time, such as street dance and boxercise to established favourites such as spinning and circuit training.
Students' Union Activities and Discounts
The Students’ Union makes sure you have the best possible experience at college. Our Students' Union (SU), can offer you informal one-to-one support and the opportunity to get involved in a range of college activities and voluntary work. Activities
As part of your course, you will be involved in a whole range of specially organized activities that help to build friendships and team work skills. Our students go on a variety of trips in the UK and overseas, as well as local activities such as paintballing and go-karting. Your time with us should be enjoyable and packed with great experiences.

Onsite Food Court and Cafes
Whether it’s a coffee and a snack, or a home cooked meal, we’ve got it all in the Food Court. Costa Coffee is a modern style deli bar serving fresh bean to cup coffee, with pastries at breakfast and Paninis at lunch. Starbucks is situated in the Sports and Music Building, serving fresh fruit juices and smoothies, along with a wide selection of hot and cold snacks.

Onsite Shop and Media Store

Skills Competitions and Events
You will get the opportunity to be involved in competitions and events which will be a great addition to your day to day learning. We participate in plenty of competitions and we try to make sure that every area will be able to have a go to show off their skills. Examples are: Association of Hairdressers and Therapists (AHT), Major Series Culinary Challenge ‘Craft Building Chefs’, Skill Build (CITB Construction Skills), Simulated Dragon’s Den (Business), World Skills and National Apprenticeship Week.
FREE Impartial Advice, Support and Careers Services (ASC)
ASC can provide you with an impartial and confidential service, if you need careers guidance or advice on student finances, or personal counselling. Online Resources: Home Access
NCD online is your very own Virtual Learning Environment (VLE). All of this is accessible at any time of the day, anywhere in the world (providing you have a computer with internet connection).
It provides you with: important announcements, course information, course handouts/learning resources (documents, presentations), links to external learning resources (websites), contact details for your tutor(s) and fellow students, course discussions, space to save your work, blogs, wikis and reflective journals, the ability to create e-portfolios, the ability to check your work against plagiarism software, access to college ASC (Advice Support Careers) information and access to library services and information.
Free Printing
You will get 300 FREE printed sheets per term, as print credits to use for your course work and study. This is equivalent to around £6 per term of free printing.
850 FREE Parking Spaces
There is loads of space for everyone, with 850 FREE car parking bays and racks for 100 bicycles. Cyclists and motorcyclists also have designated parking areas. Vehicles parking in disabled bays must display the appropriate badge.
