About Performing Arts - Drama and Music

If you can hit the high notes, are serious about music or acting, or just have an unashamed love for all things theatrical, then a career in the performing arts is for you.

Follow the red carpet route of performing arts drama and you could be an actor, choreographer, lighting technician or stage manager. If music is your thing then you could be a musician, music teacher, music journalist, sound engineer or be involved in production, promotion or management. Our friends in the know say that music is a major industry employing more than 130,000 people full-time in the UK alone.

If you are very dedicated and resilient and have a bucket load of talent then we’ll help you to have the ability to accept criticism and direction and work well within a group.

Anything else I need to know?

You’ll have loads of opportunities to finely tune your acting skills as you’ll be involved in plays, live performances, dance pieces, and a range of other shows from Hamlet to Hairspray. They will be staged at our very own venue in the College and the Gala Theatre in Durham. We have specialist tutors in singing and choreography to help you along the way. You’ll also be visiting the theatre and going to professional productions. What’s not to love?

As music students you will be involved in lots of live concerts and performances both at the College and The Sage Gateshead, with top notch facilities like individual practice rooms, ensemble rooms to prepare for gigs and a MIDI suite with specialist software recording equipment. So, you have loads of opportunities to perfect your talent before you go off into the big wide world and become really famous – well someone’s got to do it!
