Football Development Centre

New College Durham Football Development Centre was established as a Football Association initiative to develop a link between education and sport with the aim of keeping talented and bright young people in education and allowing them to continue playing sport alongside this.  Developed in conjunction with the region’s local professional clubs, the Professional Footballers Association and Adidas Plc we launched as a Regional Football Development Centre in September 2001.

You will be able to complete your academic study in a wide range of AS/A level or BTEC courses.  A comprehensive range of one-year-courses will also be available and you will receive all the benefits associated with the high-quality education that we are already renowned for.  Members will receive a minimum of six timetabled hours of professional football coaching per week which will be delivered by a fully qualified UEFA ‘B’ coach.

During coaching, time will be spent on individual player assessment and analysis.  This will be done by professional sports scientists in addition to coaching staff, and will involve all aspects of the game from skills and techniques, physical fitness through to sports psychology, which will help you maintain your peak playing performance.

The option to undertake various national coaching qualifications as part of your course which will provide you with a stepping stone for a future in the sports industry is also available.

Players will compete in the BSC ‘Centres of Football Excellence’ and the North East College League and Cup competitions on Wednesday afternoons and will have the opportunity to represent North east Schools at U19 level, from which the best can go on to represent England at Schoolboy level.

Students with an interest must meet the following criteria:
