Leisure and Pleasure

Do you have a flair for drama? Perhaps you are the go-getter that hammers everyone in a game of Monopoly! Or does your favourite movie genre include gangster films?

Whatever your idea of fun, we at New College Durham will have something for you. We know that no one enjoys studying 24 hours a day (that’s right, not even us!) and it was down to this need for enjoying as well as achieving that our Enrichment programme was created.   For one hour every week we want you to do something that you love, something more than just sitting behind a desk. We have a wide range of activities and ideas to suit everyone’s taste, whether you’re a footballer or a scientist. The friendly atmosphere and student-centred tutoring have made enrichment an instant hit with our current students and we are now expanding our range of options just for you.

If you like a good chat and have an eye for the cinema come and watch your favourite movies in the Film Club and treat yourself to many of the classic gangster films such as ‘The Godfather’, ‘The Untouchables’ and ‘Scarface’.

If films aren’t your thing and you’re feeling creative, why not share your stories and songs with others in Creative Writing, or get exciting and own the stage in our Drama class.

For those with a competitive streak, there is always 5 a side football, basketball and badminton that you can challenge your friends to. Or if sport isn’t your thing we have a huge range of Strategy Board Games on offer if you love a battle of wits.

And now there are options for the enquiring minds among you.  Whether you want to learn the ins and outs of the CSI process in Forensic Science, or simply about your own ancestry and roots in your Family Tree or Past Times search.

Don’t worry there’s no homework from these enrichment sessions and definitely no sitting in silence as students are encouraged to chat with each other, get to know new people and maybe learn things about themselves and their classmates.

It’s only an hour a week and it beats non-stop study, so check out your favourite hobby alongside your work.  You’ll even have some fun!
