A2 ENGLISH LANGUAGE, LAW AND PSYCHOLOGY
LAST SCHOOL ATTENDED: BISHOP BARRINGTON

After finishing school I was looking for something other than the usual kind of Sixth Form to go on into. New College Durham provided just that. I was initially attracted by the availability of the courses but once I came here, I realised just how different it was. As a student here you are treated as an adult, with respect and there is so much more freedom than at school. The independence you gain coming to College here is fantastic and I feel like I’m my own person. It’s a large place and there always seems to be something going on to get involved with.

The Tutors are all so knowledgeable and enthusiastic about their subjects and they really bring motivation and drive into the lessons, making them not only interesting but also enjoyable too. Once I’ve completed my A Levels here I’m going to the University of East Anglia to study Law so that I can become a Barrister.

A2 ENGLISH LITERATURE, SOCIOLOGY AND PHILOSOPHY & ETHICS
LAST SCHOOL ATTENDED: WOODHAM COMMUNITY TECHNOLOGY COLLEGE

New College Durham sent out people to visit our school and the presentation looked fantastic. They gave us all information on the courses that were on offer and the opportunities that existed at New College. What really drew me in to the College was that the Sixth Form took fewer people than most, meaning that the Tutors would have more time to spend with individual students. The teaching is very inclusive and the Tutors are seldom unable to answer your questions. The subjects that are on offer are so new and exciting, they don’t teach them at school so it’s all a very fresh experience with interesting topics. The atmosphere is great too, everyone is really friendly and you’re treated like an adult which is what I like the most. It’s a brilliant learning atmosphere, especially in the classes where the Tutors gain your respect and confidence straight away. I am planning to study Psychology at Northumbria University, and maybe go into Forensic Psychology.

A2 FILM STUDIES, SOCIOLOGY AND ENGLISH LANGUAGE
LAST SCHOOL ATTENDED: EASINGTON COMMUNITY SCIENCE COLLEGE

My main ambition is to go on to University and New College Durham offered all the courses I need. The College came highly recommended and when I first came it really felt like the best place for me to study. Starting for the first time I was nervous but the whole attitude here is so good, I felt comfortable and fitted in straight away.

The best thing about New College Durham for me is the advice and support that the Tutors offer, they seem to really go out of their way to support your choices and to help you get where you want to be. I’ve never struggled to achieve as the Tutors are always available to offer help and even to point you in the right direction on careers and universities. When I have completed my courses here I plan to go to Newcastle University and study a BA in English Language.

A2 BIOLOGY, FILM STUDIES, ENGLISH LITERATURE AND HISTORY
LAST SCHOOL ATTENDED: FARRINGDON COMMUNITY SPORTS COLLEGE

New College Durham was recommended to me by a friend of the family and the good record of achievement combined with variety of courses available is what really drove me to study here. I really feel that New College has helped me to achieve and succeed in my studies. The facilities are fantastic and there are plenty of opportunities to advance. What I like most about New College though, is the chance to make new friends. The integration process feels really quick and there are lots of chances to make friends with people from other schools. The Tutors are great and always manage to make the courses interesting and involved. After I finish my studies at New College I plan to either go straight to University to study English Literature or History, or take a gap year first and tour with the TA.
