Our Vocational Learning Programme

We offer well established, high quality vocational programmes for young people at Key Stage 4.

Enhancing the Educational Experience

We have a long established history of delivering a high quality Vocational Learning Programme (VLP). This enhances the educational experience of young people and creates vocational and work-related learning opportunities for 14 to 16 year olds.  New College Durham has established partnerships with many local schools and other partners, enabling schools to offer a more diverse curriculum at Key Stage 4.

Young people are able to study at New College Durham for one day a week throughout Key Stage 4.  They have the opportunity to work towards valued vocational and work-related qualifications, and are able to develop knowledge and understanding in a work context.  Upon completion of the VLP, participants have the opportunity to progress onto a full time programme or apprenticeship at the college.

Vocational areas include:

  • Construction – plumbing, brickwork, carpentry and joinery, painting and decorating
  • Engineering and Motor Vehicle
  • Hairdressing
  • Beauty Therapy
  • Hospitality and Catering
  • Sport and Exercise
  • Uniformed Services
  • Childcare
