Welcome to our Progression and Transition Programmes

Our schools liaison team can organise and deliver a number of activities throughout the year, within both the school environment and onsite at the College. Dedicated College staff can visit your school to provide students and parents with an insight into the various career opportunities available at the College after compulsory education.

Careers Activities and Talks at School

We are able to co-ordinate careers activities in your school, where staff and students provide demonstrations and taster activities in a number of subject areas, as well as assembly and group talks.

'Hands on' Taster Workshops at College

The College holds taster workshops for mixed school groups and individual schools during the academic year. The taster days give 'hands on' practical experience of a day at College in chosen subject areas.

Parents' and Option Evenings at School

We are happy to provide a presence at your parents' evenings, to give your students and parents the chance to find out more about our vocational courses, sixth form centre and apprenticeships, depending on which areas you would like the College to champion.

Masterclasses at New College Durham

This programme is arranged for year 10 students in June at the College. These active learning sessions have the long term objective to support progression into higher education.

Activities for Progression to Higher Education

The College has over a 30 year history in producing graduates and diplomates. We offer a range of options to schools with and without sixth forms, both on school premises and at the College including taster activities and talks.

College Campus Days Tour, Talk & Activities

Campus visits enable students to experience life at College, by taking a tour, enjoying an activity and a short introductory talk. This visit allows students to consider vocational, sixth form and apprenticeship options following GCSEs.

The Apprentice Workshops at College

We offer vocational workshops for students considering an Apprenticeship after school. These activities give 'hands on' practical experience in a vocational environment in a variety of subject areas.

Transition Support Services and Mentors

A mentoring service is available upon request for year 11 students at risk of dropping out of school and becoming NEET. Our Personal Learning Coaches (PLCs) can work with schools to target these students to encourage a smooth, positive transition.

Advice, Support and Careers (ASC) Services

ASC provides a comprehensive range of information on careers and student funding and welfare. Year 11 students can access pre-arranged appointments specifically for your school, please read on to find out more.
