This competition is open to New College Durham HE students only, Levels 4, 5 and 6. Students who have or are completing the Enterprise related module on their course programme, as well as those participating in the Young Enterprise Initiative are welcome to enter their ideas in this competition. The prize money will be provided in vouchers. Mentoring for the winning team will be provided by Durham City Incubator and Business Durham. The registration document must be completed in full in order to qualify for entering the competition. Registration closes 22nd March, registrations received after this date will not be accepted. Participants will only be contacted, when applicable, using the email address they have provided on the registration form. The idea entered in the competition must be innovative, new or a twist on an existing product or service. The idea presented by the team must be the team’s own idea. Students will be advised of/cans ask questions about self-copyright of their ideas in the workshops provided by Durham City Incubator and Business Durham – it is the participating teams’ responsibility to attend the workshops and be fully aware of the opportunity to self-copyright and to be responsible for self-copyrighting their ideas before the day of the competition. All teams must attend on the day of the competition and will be responsible for their display on their designated stand. Stands will be available from 3pm the previous day (May 22nd) and must be ready by 08:00 on May 23rd. Stands must be attended at all times by at least one member of the participating team from 08:00 May 23rd until 11:30a.m. All participating teams must adhere to New College Durham’s Health &Safety requirements and must ensure the health and safety of themselves and their display stands, any equipment they may use and the surrounding area of the display stand e.g. no bags/files etc. on the floor likely to cause an accident. Employers will be present on the day of the competition and may ask questions about the participating teams’ ideas. Participating teams will be responsible for informing visitors to their stands about their idea (selling their idea). We recommend that you dress in a smart manner as you will be meeting local business owners – first impressions count! Displays can include any information relating to the idea which can effectively sell it to attendees; display items can include but are not limited to information such as posters, prototypes, portfolio relating to the product e.g. business plan, marketing plan etc. Participants are responsible for removing all items from the stands at the end of the competition. If any items are left on the stand after 11:30, unless these are being removed at the time and there is a team participant attending the stand to say this is happening, items on the display stand will be removed and destroyed. New College Durham retains the right to use photographs from the competition for publicity purposes. In the event of a significant number of entrants, and potential Health & Safety consequences, decisions on teams participating will be made on a first come first served basis.
