Corporation and structure
New College Durham is an independent Corporation with exempt charity status formed under the Further and Higher Education Act 1992. The Instrument and Articles of Government set down its powers, membership, role and responsibilities.
The Corporation of New College Durham is made up of members from the business and local community, local authorities, stakeholders, partners, staff and students. The Principal is a member ex officio and the only executive member. Corporation is accountable for the use of public funds and has a duty of care for the assets of the College. Corporation is advised by a Clerk who is independent of College management and has access to independent professional advice.
Corporation currently has 16 members. The Corporation meets 5 times a year for general business, with an additional meeting to concentrate on strategic issues. It operates through a structure of committees which have clearly defined terms of reference to consider issues in more detail and make recommendations to the Board. Each member serves on at least one of the following committees:
- Strategy and Resources
- Quality, Curriculum and Students
- Higher Education Student Experience & Quality Enhancement
