This course will provide you with the knowledge and skills required to pursue a career within the engineering industry.

Aims

This course will provide you with the knowledge and understanding of a broad range of engineering compentencies.

The qualification covers the intermediate knowledge, understanding and skills that are required by someone working in the engineering industry. It takes a hands-on approach to training.

Modules

You will study different units for fabrication and welding and mechanical engineering.

Mandatory for both:
  • Engineering Environment Awareness
  • Engineering Techniques
  • Engineering Principles.


Optional:
  • Fabrication & Welding Principles
  • Manual Welding Techniques
  • Plate Work Operations.


  • Sheet Metal Operations
  • Fitting & Assembly Techniques
  • Turning & Milling Machining Techniques.

Delivery

Day and time of study will be confirmed before the start of your course.

Teaching & assessment

You will complete three core mandatory units, with an on-screen multiple-choice examination.

There are three optional units, comprising centre marked practical/theory assessments.

What else?

You could pursue a career as a Mechanical Fitter, Maintenance Engineer, Manufacturing Engineer, Electrical Engineer, Electronics Engineer, Sheet Metal Worker, CNC operator or Welder.

You will be invited to attend an interview in college.

Entry Criteria

You must hold a minimum of grade 3 in maths and English.

You will be required to demonstrate that you have the minimum level of literacy and numeracy.
