This Accounts/Finance Assistant apprenticeship programme will ensure you have the skills to maintain an efficient and accurate finance function within a business.

AAT is the world’s leading professional body for accounting technicians. This Level 2 programme is the current entry level for an accounting apprenticeship.

New College Durham received recognition at the annual AAT Awards dinner. 

Aims

The Accounts/Finance Assistant is responsible for assisting the team of accountants with junior accounting duties. These can vary massively depending on the team structure and size of business.

An Accounts/Finance Assistant’s work could include:
  • Basic bookkeeping activities
  • Working with sales and purchase ledgers
  • Running calculations to ensure that records and payments are correct
  • Recording of cash and data entry.


Accounts/Finance Assistants can work in almost any sector. Potential employers include corporate businesses, sole traders, partnerships, Public Sector, not-for-profit organisations and educational institutions.

Modules

You will study the following:
  • Bookkeeping Transactions
  • Bookkeeping Controls
  • Elements of Costing
  • Working Effectively in Accounting
  • Using Accounting Software.


You will complete an End Point Assessment that will include a structured interview supported by a portfolio and an in-tray test.

Delivery

Monday:
9am-3pm

Teaching & assessment

You will attend college one day a week for lectures and practical sessions. All assessments are via on-line examinations.

Upon successful completion of the Level 2 apprenticeship, you may progress to Level 3 Assistant Accountant apprenticeship or the AAT Advanced Diploma in Accounting.

Additional Costs

You will be advised to purchase the supporting textbooks at approximately £90. Re-sit fees are £50 per exam.

Interview Instructions

You will be invited to attend an informal discussion with a member of the AAT team. Please bring evidence of Level 2 maths and English.

Entry Criteria

You will hold five GCSEs, including maths and English at Level 2.
