This intermediate course will prepare you for further study or a career in the dynamic business administration sector.
This course combines study with learning on-the-job. You will attend college on a day-release basis while employed and working as an apprentice administrator
You will gain evidence from your place of work, which will contribute towards the achievement of your apprenticeship.
Our full-time business and retail courses will give you the practical skills and knowledge that employers are looking for in this dynamic industry.
Our business students use the college spaces to host events. Take a look around our Innovation and Enterprise Hub.
This course will provide you with the basic knowledge and skills to help prepare you for further study or employment in a junior job role within the business sector.

Apprenticeships are a mixture of work based learning and education, which includes the following elements: -
- Level 2 NVQ Certificate in Business and Administration
- Level 2 Certificate in Principles of Business and Administration (which is often referred to as a technical certificate)
- Functional Maths Level 1
- Functional English Level 2
You will work for a minimum of 30 hours per week, plus take part in training for approximately 1 day. The exact working and training hours will be dependent upon the needs of the employer.
Teaching & assessment
The assessment process for an NVQ qualification is ongoing throughout the course. You are required to build up a portfolio of evidence, which is assessed internally and also externally verified by OCR. Assessment takes place in the workplace and in College.
In addition to the NVQ qualification, you will be studying for Key Skills qualifications and Technical Certificates which are exam based.
You could progress to Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeship Business Administration with New College Durham.

After initially completing a performing arts course at New College Durham, Lauren Edge decided that returning to New College to complete an Apprenticeship in Business Administration was the change in direction her career needed.
