Aims
The NCFE Level 3 (90credit) Diploma in Sport and Physical Activity is for learners who are looking to develop general knowledge and interpersonal skills to support them into higher education when taken as a programme of study.
The qualifications will:
focus on the study of the sport and physical activity sector
offer breadth and depth of study
provide opportunities to acquire a number of practical and technical skills.
The objectives of the qualification are to:
allow learners to gain an in-depth understanding of the sport and physical activity sector
give learners the opportunity to investigate career opportunities in the sport and physical activity sector
allow learners to choose content which relates to their own interests, aspirations and progression choices.
Modules
Core modules:
- Exercise, health and lifestyle
- Preparing for a career in sport and physical activity.
Optional modules include:
- Practical team sports
- Principles of anatomy and physiology
- Practical individual sports
- The physiology of fitness.

Teaching & assessment
You will engage in practical and classroom-based lessons, and will be assessed using the following methods:
- Observation of performance
- Workbooks
- Portfolios
- Presentations
- Written assignments
- Independent study.
Maths and English
Maths and English skills are essential for the workplace and university.
If you have not achieved a new grade 9-4 or do not hold an A* to C in GCSE maths or English, do not worry, your study programme at college will include teaching that will support you to progress your skills in these subjects. If you achieved a grade 3 or hold a D in either maths or English, you will have the opportunity to re-sit your GCSE qualification with us. If your grade was lower than a 3, or your qualification is below a D, you will study Functional Skills. These qualifications will help you enhance your maths and English skills and can be taken at levels between Entry Level 1 up to and including Level 2. Even if you have already achieved a grade 4 or above, or hold a A* to C, we will continue to develop your skills and help you progress further.
Maths and English skills are essential for the workplace and university.

Placement:
You will be expected to undertake a meaningful work placement within the industry. This is a great opportunity for you to get hands-on experience and develop your skills in a real working environment.

Interview Instructions
You will be invited to attend an informal interview at the College with a member of our sport team. Your suitability to the course will be assessed at this stage.

Entry Criteria
You will hold a minimum of four GCSEs at grade A*-C, including maths and English, or a Level 2 qualification in a sport related subject.
