Our Level 3 programmes provide UCAS points to provide a pathway into Higher Education, but through a practical and hands on approach to studying.
Working with a range of sector partners and employers you will get to develop and try out your new found skills through a mix of real and simulated activities that prepare you for working within a range of customer facing roles.
For budding sports coaches, our coaching and development pathway gives you opportunities to work across a range of sports with a range of age groups, from primary schools to peers. You will get full support from our highly qualified sports coaches, including UEFA B qualified football coaches and an exciting partnership with NUFC Foundation for those with a passion for the beautiful game.
If sport and exercise science is more your thing, our science pathway gives you the opportunity to hone your performance analysis using a range of modern techniques and equipment that is used in the modern game, including GPS technology and the latest in field and lab based testing.
Experience

Our sports students benefitted from an American Football coaching course provided by the Gateshead Senators.
Our sport and business students travelled to Wembley Stadium to watch England play Slovenia in the World Cup qualifiers.
Aims
This course aims to develop your general knowledge and interpersonal skills. Completion of the course will allow you to progress to a relevant higher education programme. This course will allow you to select content which relates to your interests, aspirations and progression choices.
You will study the sport and physical activity sector. This qualification offers breadth and depth of theoretical and physical study. You will receive work placement opportunities and will explore career opportunities in the sport and physical activity sector.

Teaching & assessment
You will engage in practical and classroom-based lessons, and will be assessed using the following methods:
- Observation of performance
- Workbooks
- Portfolios
- Presentations
- Written assignments
- Independent study.
Maths and English
Maths and English skills are essential for the workplace and university.
If you have not achieved a new grade 9-4 or do not hold an A* to C in GCSE maths or English, do not worry, your study programme at college will include teaching that will support you to progress your skills in these subjects. If you achieved a grade 3 or hold a D in either maths or English, you will have the opportunity to re-sit your GCSE qualification with us. If your grade was lower than a 3, or your qualification is below a D, you will study Functional Skills. These qualifications will help you enhance your maths and English skills and can be taken at levels between Entry Level 1 up to and including Level 2. Even if you have already achieved a grade 4 or above, or hold a A* to C, we will continue to develop your skills and help you progress further.
Maths and English skills are essential for the workplace and university.

Placement:
You will be expected to undertake a meaningful work placement within the industry. This is a great opportunity for you to get hands-on experience and develop your skills in a real working environment.
After completing the first year of the course you will have the opportunity to continue onto the second year. During your second year, you will be able to gain UCAS points so you can apply to study a degree level qualification.
Meet our students
Ashleigh progressed to Northumbria University and intends to specialise her skills.
James studied Sports Science at Northumbria University, while working as a part-time lifeguard, and is now U9-16s Fitness and Conditioning Coach at NUFC Academy.
Former sport student Will Fletcher is a member of the GB rowing squad.

You will be invited to attend an informal interview at the College with a member of our sport team. Your suitability to the course will be assessed at this stage.

Entry Criteria
You will hold a minimum of four GCSEs at grade A*-C, including maths and English, or a Level 2 qualification in a sport related subject.
