This programme aims to allow you to top-up your CIPD Level 7 programme to a full masters programme.

It is designed to allow you to develop and implement creative strategic HR solutions in your workplace.

You will further develop your leadership skills to ensure you are capable of engaging members of staff. You will learn good practice strategies for ethical staff recruitment, selection and dismissal.

There is an option to apply straight to the MA Human Resource Management top-up if you have previously studied the CIPD Level 7, depending on the units completed. Please contact the course team for more information.

This course runs on an evening and has various start dates across the academic year. For more information, please contact Admissions on Live Chat.

This programme is aimed at those who are seeking to develop a career in HR management and development, or are working in the field of HR management and development and need to extend their knowledge and skills.

You will have responsibility for implementing HR policies and strategies. It is preferable that you have previously studied a CIPD foundation level qualification, but not essential, depending on your previous qualifications and experience.

  • Human Resource Management in Context
  • Leading, Managing and Developing People
  • Developing Skills for Business Leadership
  • Investigating a Business Issue from a HR Perspective
  • Employee Engagement
  • Employment Law
  • Leadership and Talent Management Development
  • Resource and Talent Planning.

Modules are subject to change by the course team.

You may extend your study to Masters Provision. If this is the case, you will be required to complete a research module, professional practice module and dissertation in year two.

The ‘Developing Skills for Business Leadership’ module will run throughout the programme, and you will receive guidance on how to complete the activities.

You will be allocated a personal tutor who will also work with you to develop a portfolio. From September to December, you will work on building your portfolio, and will submit this for assessment.

Day and time of study will be confirmed before the start of your course.

Teaching & assessment

Each unit is allocated a number of weeks over the programme. Sessions are engaging and include both taught theory and seminar activities. The sessions aim to develop your knowledge and practice of being a HR practitioner by using an interactive approach. This means you will be given the opportunity to apply the theory to practice.

Each unit has an assessment which has been designed and written by CIPD. The assessments will take on different forms, such as written reports or presentations. HRM in Context and Leading, Managing and Developing People are assessed through external exams. Internally assessed units are initially assessed by internal CIPD staff, before being moderated externally by CIPD. Tutorials are provided by the Course Tutor to help you with your assessments. You will be required to spend approximately 5 hours per week working on the unit and assessments outside of the lesson. Once all modules have been internally and externally moderated by CIPD then you will receive your certificate.

Industry links:

We have links to the CIPD NE Branch and you will be encouraged to attend events at least once per year. We also invite ACAS to come in annually to provide updates on recent practice.
