This course is aimed for people aged 19 years or over.

This part-time course is perfect for you if you are looking to start a new career in the construction industry. You will develop a wide range of skills in brickwork, carpentry & joinery and painting & decorating.

From building a range of walls and brick features to fitting units & workshops and preparing and painting surfaces, you will develop and wide range of skills to help you take the next step in a construction trade.

This course is for you if you are looking to change careers and get started in a construction trade.

Study Aims

This Level 1 qualification will provide you with a range of basic construction craft skills and knowledge.

You will also develop an understanding of the health and safety requirements for working in the construction industry.

Carpentry & Joinery

  • Skirting and architraves
  • Floor joists
  • Flooring
  • Door lining
  • Hanging a door
  • Window frames
  • Fixed truss
  • Units and worktops

Painting & Decorating

  • Preparing surfaces
  • Applying foundation and plain papers
  • Painting doors, walls, ceilings, features and timber surfaces
  • Producing standard decorative finishes

Assessment will be through the completion of two NOCN devised practical tasks and associated knowledge questions (written or verbal). This will be internally assessed and internally and externally quality assured using the NOCN assessment booklets to evidence all learning outcomes.
