Course details may be subject to change

This course will be the first step in introducing and building your knowledge to give you the bigger picture of domestic retrofit.

Retrofitting will provide more efficient buildings that also improve the quality of life for residents: warmer homes that are weatherproof and more affordable. Making existing homes more sustainable will be critical for governments - and housing industries - to meet their sustainability targets.

There has never been a better time to start the Retrofit journey, whether your ambition is to become a Retrofit Assessor, you are a tradesperson who wants to understand best practice for building insulation to meet PAS2035 compliance or you just want to understand more about the topic, this course is packed with valuable content that ensures you make the right first step into retrofitting.

This course will be the first step in obtaining a qualification in retrofit to kickstart your journey towards becoming a Retrofit Assessor or Insulation and Building Treatment tradesperson who specialises in insulation and building fabric (both require prior experience in a construction trade).

Entry Criteria

It would be beneficial to have experience working in a construction trade, however, this course is designed for anyone looking to gain an awareness and better understanding of retrofit and meeting PAS 2035 compliance (for buildings to meet zero carbon targets).

Study Aims

This Level 2 Award in Understanding Domestic Retrofit is an Ofqual regulated qualification.

If you’re new to the world of domestic retrofit, this course will give you a comprehensive and easy to follow introduction to whole-house retrofit.

If you have some experience of energy efficiency projects already, the course will build your knowledge to give you the bigger picture of domestic retrofit.

You will gain an understanding of what domestic retrofit is, what it is supposed to achieve, what you need to know when working in the industry, and what to look out for when installing energy efficiency measures in homes.

The course is designed to improve your employability skills. Employers are increasingly seeking to develop a workforce who understand the fundamentals of retrofitting.

The qualification is designed to be delivered as a stand-alone qualification, or run alongside other programs of learning.

The purpose of this qualification is to raise awareness of Retrofit in a general way while focusing on PAS 2035. The content allows you to gain knowledge on the key topic areas to do with the retrofitting of buildings.

Modules Studied You will cover the following:

  • Required safe working practices and behaviours to work in the retrofit industry
  • Understanding the retrofit upgrading scheme relevant to current industry standards.
  • Understanding the hierarchy of trades as well as the roles and responsibilities within retrofit
  • Understanding the impacts of PAS 2035 on installing and preparing a property retrofit system.
