This course is aimed for people aged 19 years or over.

This EFL course is perfect for international students looking to develop their English alongside taking part in cross-cultural exchanges and community-based volunteering projects. You will develop your ability to express yourself fluently and accurately in a variety of formal and less formal situations.

You can work towards internationally recognised English Language qualifications in speaking, listening, reading and writing skills.

Entry Criteria

This course is designed for people whose first language is not English. There are no academic entry requirements but the offer of a place is dependent on the outcome of the initial interview and assessment. The applicant's language skills must fall within the range of Beginner to Advanced.

What are the next steps?

Applicants will receive advice and guidance from the member of the curriculum team and will then be invited to attend an assessment of their skills. The assessment usually takes approximately an hour.

Study Aims

The course aims to:

  • Provide learners with the English and academic skills needed for life, study and work in the UK
  • Help learners develop general English communication skills
  • Support learners as they adapt to both general and academic life in the UK
  • Provide learners with an understanding of grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation
  • Help learners develop an understanding of different varieties of English (academic, formal and informal speech & writing)
  • Encourage learners to practice talking about different topics of interest to develop their accuracy and fluency in using English.

Modules Studied

This programme includes general and academic English and preparation for IELTS. Learners will be provided with opportunities to take part in cross-cultural exchanges and community-based volunteering projects, as well as partnership work with native English-speaking students in the College.

Teaching and Assessment

Each learner receives a full assessment of their language skills at the start of the programme and is provided with a personalised timetable designed to meet their specific needs.

Regular assessment throughout the course ensures that learners can progress and achieve their full potential at their own pace.

Each learner is assigned a personal tutor who helps guide and manage their individual programme and plans for progression.
