This Preparing for Further Learning or Employment course aims to help young people with learning disabilities make a successful transition from education to adulthood, with an additional focus on developing work ready skills in three areas.
Developed to support young people, each bespoke programme is designed to meet the individual needs of a student.
Experienced teachers will consistently measure and provide evidence to ensure each student takes the appropriate next steps in their journey. Each student will also receive excellent additional classroom support.
You will work towards developing your maths and English skills, as well as skills for living an independent life.
No formal requirements for entry to this course.
There may be a small cost incurred for additional trips and visits. NCD can provide financial support where this is required.
What are the next steps?
You will be invited to attend a meet the tutor chat with a member of our Foundation Learning Team.
During this chat, we will ask what you have studied at school, what are your aspirations, and we will discuss any support needs you might have.
Before you leave, you will have a support plan in place to make sure you have a smooth transition from school to college.
This course aims to provide you with opportunities to develop a range of transferable skills to prepare you to progress onto a higher level course, into employment or independent living. On the multi-skills pathway, you will be able to select three different areas to experience.
You will complete a bespoke enrichment programme that will broaden your skills and build your confidence and resilience. You will also get involved in enterprise activities, and will choose an enrichment activity that supports your personal, physical and mental growth.
You will be encouraged to say yes to exciting opportunities, such as entering the Inclusive World Skills competitions.
As part of the Preparing for Further Learning or Employment course, you will develop skills in one of the following. As a student on the multi-skills route, you can choose three areas to try out:
- Health and Care
- Motor Vehicle
- Sport and Leisure
- Hair and Beauty
Teaching and Assessment
Our Foundation Studies team are specialists with the right approach and skillset to support your development and prepare you for adulthood.
You will also receive support that is tailored to meet your individual needs. You will be assigned a Personal Development Coach (PDC) for additional support and guidance, to help you stretch and challenge yourself.
You will be encouraged to take part in work related activities and volunteering opportunities, as well as a work placement (where suitable).
You will receive individual guidance for your next steps.
Natural progression options include progressing to Preparing for Working Life, or a Level 1 course.
