This certificate in vehicle maintenance will improve your understanding of the workings of your car and give you the confidence to undertake some routine maintenance and repair.
This course will provide you with practical experience in repair and maintenance, and will introduce you to general safety rules and tools you will need to explore the various systems in your vehicle.
You will get a quick guide to general maintenance which will allow you to take good care of your car with ease.
Entry Criteria
There are no entry requirements needed for this certificate in car maintenance.
If you join the programme, you will be required to wear suitable work wear, including steel toe-capped boots.
Study Aims
It would be beneficial for you to have a basic understanding of vehicle systems.
Modules Studied
- Removal of wheels, inspection and inflation of tyres
- Checking vehicle functions, replacing bulbs and fuses
- Inspection of braking systems
- Changing air, oil and fuel filters
- Changing engine oil
- Using and checking automotive tools and equipment
- Wiper blades/washer bottle, levels and functions.

Teaching and Assessment
This is a practical based certificate course that will take place in the automotive workshops at NCD. You will work independently and in small groups. You will complete practical worksheets and will receive feedback from your tutor.
A college certificate of completion will be presented on completion of the programme. This course does not include formal assessments.
