Richard Cleaver Building
Richard Cleaver, Bricklaying Sub-Contractor at Richard Cleaver Building, said: “Employing an apprentice has brought enthusiasm into the work team and has also increased productivity and morale.
“Our apprentice has developed from being new to the building trade to a competent bricklayer in six months and has recently started learning how to lay stone. Studying at New College Durham has helped him with the technical side of bricklaying and provides him with the opportunity to put into practice what he has learnt on site.
“I have received excellent health and safety support from New College Durham and they have also helped us to apply for a grant.
I would recommend the apprenticeship scheme to other businesses; it has been a surprisingly easy process. It has been very good for my business and I would not hesitate to recommend.”
Bricklayers build and repair walls, chimney stacks, tunnel linings and decorative stonework like archways.
