Turn “NO YOU CAN’T” into “NO WE CAN”

We have proudly delivered NCS programmes since 2017 and continue to provide all of our Further Education and A-Level students, aged 16-17, with the opportunity to participate in one of the fantastic youth programmes that run every summer and autumn.

NCS provides an experience that is all about getting a taste for independence, meeting new people and taking on exciting new challenges. The programmes generate a platform for you to get your voice heard and tackle real world issues through a passion project.

Since 2011, around 600,00 young people have taken part in NCS, completing over 14.5 million hours of community action, and gaining priceless life experiences and transferable skills.

Annabelle Steel, New College Durham student, talks about how NCS has had an impact on her:

“NCS helped me in various ways, mainly with my confidence. Before NCS I hated getting up and speaking in public, but now I like to challenge myself. Taking part in different projects has also helped me to understand different employers and charities, and how I can get involved in the community. I am so pleased I signed up for NCS as it was a great opportunity and I got to meet new people and made new friends.”

John Widdowson CBE, Principal and Chief Executive at New College Durham, commented:

“The College provides skills and qualifications for work and NCS helps our students adds the skills they need for ‘life’. NCS forms a vital part of what we do as a College."
