Ex student provides excellent work experience opportunities
Ex Drama student, Kayleigh Laverick, furthered her skills in higher education since leaving New College Durham. After completing her Dance degree at the University of Sunderland, and finishing her programme at the London School of Musical Theatre (LSMT), Kayleigh returned to the North East.
Kayleigh was inspired to set up her own business, and that is when ‘Garage NE’ was born. Garage NE is a dance school for children, based in Horden, which offers lessons in ballet, tap, Latin, ballroom, street dance, breakdance, acrobatics, as well as contemporary and musical theatre.
Our current Performing Arts students have been given the opportunity to work with Garage NE, providing valuable work experience. Students assisted with leading warm ups and developing and teaching choreography.
Summer Rutter, Performing Arts student, said ‘Working with Garage NE has been a great experience. It has helped me develop my communication skills as I feel more comfortable teaching choreography. It has also opened my eyes to teaching children – I really enjoyed it’.
Summer hopes to gain a place on a BA (Hons) Dance Professional Practice programme on successful completion of her current programme.
Our specialist teaching staff will help you to develop confidence, creativity and finely tune your performance skills.
