County Durham's Sport Coaching Conference
For the second year running our sports students attended County Durham's annual Sports Coaching Conference, which this year we were also delighted to host at New College Durham.
The conference enables coaches from all sporting categories to develop their understanding and competence, ensuring athletes in the Durham area will be trained to a high standard. In the hope of attracting new members to Durham's sporting teams, the focus of this year’s conference was 'social inclusion' and the promotion of clubs.
Coaches participated in a number of workshops and heard from Paralympic athlete, Lee Fawcett. Lee spoke about the challenges of his condition, alongside his great achievements within several competitive sports.
Attending the conference is great experience for the students, it allows them to not only develop an understanding employer requirements but also network with industry professionals.
Mike King, sports student, said: "I really enjoyed the conference and would highly recommend it to other students. I learnt a lot from the workshops and was inspired listening to Lee Fawcett."
