A group of IT students ranging from Year 1 Level 3 to Foundation Degree travelled to Birmingham’s NEC to visit the Gadget Show Live. This took place during the Easter break and allows all of the major technology companies and new inventors the opportunity to showcase their product ranges to major developers such as Samsung and Sony.
As part of the trip, the students also got to attend the ‘Super Theatre’ to see the Channel 5 show The Gadget Show performed live on stage. This included gadget demonstrations, interactive games and crowd participation with the opportunity to win some of the new gadgets.
Simon Pears, an IT lecturer, really saw the benefit of this experience: “The Gadget Show trip had a flavoursome selection of cutting edge technology available for students to explore as an enriching experience of their course. This ranged from mobile devices, PCs, tablets and games consoles. The live show provided particular insight into how technology has enriched and impacted society over the past decade.”
This event offered a real insight into how quickly technology has moved over the last few years. The students also got to see potential future technology that they may be working with in their careers. The gadgets will now be used as case studies in future lessons and activities and potentially influence how the students work in the future.
