Health Promotion Day
The Durham School of Podiatric Medicine celebrated its 40th anniversary this month. The podiatry staff and students marked this occasion by holding a health promotion day which promoted podiatry to the wider college community.
It was a great opportunity for the students to plan, prepare and participate in a health promotion day, where they enhanced their communication, leadership and team working skills. During the event the podiatry students offered advice about foot problems, checked foot pulses and foot pressure when walking.
Mo Dixon, Vice Principal, said: “It was a great event with students playing a key role during the day. It is an excellent enhancement of the student learning experience.”
Fahid-Ben-Amhed, BSc (Hons) Podiatry student, said: “The event went really well, we all enjoyed it as it was a learning curve for us all.”
To follow this event there is a planned health promotion day on 16 March 2016 at Bishop Auckland Podiatry clinic, which is aimed at current patients, local GP’s and local residents.
The students have also requested that the New College Durham Health Promotion Day becomes an annual event, allowing future students to also have this fantastic opportunity.
