What better way to start the year, and get to know your fellow class-mates, but with a trip to the fantastic Kirkley Hall. Set in the heart of the Northumberland countryside the outdoor facility offers adventurous activities which allowed our sports students to get to know each other in a fun and competitive environment.
The students enthusiastically took on the challenge of the teambuilding activities, which included high ropes course, zip slide and outdoor climbing walls. The activities tested their mental and physical skills whilst also improving courage, determination, leadership and teamwork: all of which are important employability skills.
Abbey Thornton, sports student, said: “There was a really good set of activities on offer. I got to know the people in my group better, and also was able to try activities that I had not taken part in before.”
Steven Bell, Curriculum Manager, said: “This is a great opportunity for students to challenge themselves and get to know each other. The activities required teamwork and leadership both of which are essential parts of sporting success, as well as great employability skills."
"Our courses are ideal for producing students who not only have academic skills, but the softer skills that set them apart from employers.”
The winners of the event will return to Kirkley Hall in June to represent the college in the regional competition.
