Live project site visit
Our HND Construction and Civil Engineering students have been working on a live project with GMI Construction. The students visited one of their active sites to obtain vital information and gain an insight into the sector from industry professionals.
The live project offers the students the perfect scenario to help them further their understanding and knowledge for the Project Design, Implementation & Design units on their degree programme. The experience will also help the students with their research into a pioneering live brief. They carried out some research on the project before visiting the site, and developed some relevant questions for the Project Team, to help with their assignment brief.
The students will visit the site again in the coming weeks to see how the project has developed.
Graham Ratcliffe, Director at GMI Construction, commented: “GMI Construction is happy to help engage Higher Education students. It was a pleasure to welcome the students from New College Durham to our Follinsby Max, Gateshead site – they were great to work with. We look forward to organising future visits and are hopeful to develop a partnership with the College.”
Andrew Simpson, HE Construction Programme Leader, said: “This live project challenged the students who were already in the industry to apply alternative methods of assessment. This strategy improves their quality of learning as it allows them to engage in interactive learning on site.”
Construction & Civil Engineering is one of the UK's largest and most diverse sectors.
