Local business leader shares her expertise
Maxine Mayhew, who is responsible for managing over 500 staff in her role as the Commercial Director of Northumbrian Water, addressed students from the BA (Hons) Management & FdA Housing and Communities Degree.
Maxine is based locally at Northumbrian Water’s Head Office at Pity Me in Durham, although she spends a great deal of time travelling to the organisations which are spread nationally around the UK.
Maxine’s portfolio of roles includes working as non-executive director at a local housing organisation, Derwentside Homes, and at a family butchers business in Cheshire.
Maxine was able to draw on her experience to explain the application of the theory of strategy and change to real businesses, she shared this with students who also had the opportunity to ask questions.
Housing students asked questions about Northumbrian Water’s experience of Social Enterprise and Maxine illustrated this by reference to the many holiday units operated by Northumbrian Water at Kielder Reservoir; much of the non-regulated business of the organisation is in the travel and tourism sector, an area of interest for the degree students.
Maxine identified that the key to the success of her areas of responsibility is good team working. Her team have won many awards and on the evening of the presentation were awarded the gold award at the North East Pride Guest 2016 for corporate & business communications.
The dynamic and growing business and management industry is vast.
A career in housing can be rewarding and challenging.
