Media students buzz about Firefly articles

Four of our talented media students have been writing for local marketing agency, Firefly New Media UK. Firefly are the fastest growing, number one local magazine company in the North East. The network of magazines is anchored around positively driven local news content.

Rebekah Robinson and Jessica Hirst have both been working on pieces with Durham magazine, Andrew Bird has been writing for Newcastle magazine and Adam English has been enjoying his time writing for Consett magazine.

This has been a fantastic opportunity for the students to develop their journalism skills and gain real life experience. Firefly wanted the students to choose topics they were interested in as their magazines are built around local passions. All four students said they got a buzz from having their first articles published in their respective magazines.

Rebekah and Jessica are both looking to pursue careers in journalism and their work experience with Firefly has confirmed their passion and potential. They both expressed how much they enjoyed the experience and thanked Firefly for the freedom to work creatively on pieces relevant to the local community.

Wendy Armstrong, Curriculum Support Coach, said:

“Firefly have been an absolute pleasure to work with and have provided the students with a quality work experience. Barry and Marco have been particularly helpful and have gone out of their way for the students. I really look forward to working with them again in the future. The students have all worked so hard and I am very proud of the articles they have produced. It has been lovely to read about their passions.”
