National Sports Roadshow 2016
This year our sports students attended the National Sports Roadshow at Leeds Beckett University. At the event the students had the opportunity to explore a wide range of different career and education progression opportunities within the sports, fitness and active leisure industry.
The activities, talks and stalls within the exhibition allowed the learners to interact with a range of activities which included attempting to win ‘a reading list for a year’ from the Human Kinetics publications stall, or participating in various demonstrations and sporting activities such as Tchoukball, American Football & Aussie rules.
The learners also experienced a wide range of talks from people working within the industry, this included;
- What are your career options in the sports industry
- The importance of sports science within Leeds Utd FC
- Careers in social sciences
Two of the learners used the event to take the next step in their career. They engaged with the guest speakers and successfully gained potential employment as soon as their course ends.
Katherine Holdsworth, current Applied Sport and Exercise Science student, gained an interview with the Carnegie Great Outdoors company which specialises in outdoor adventurous activities.
Further education sports student, Darryn Bancroft, secured a place with the Newcastle University cricket team as a paid coach over the summer before starting his degree programme.
Barry Poskett, Sports Lecturer, said: "I am really proud of all the students who took the trip to Leeds and explored their career options. I am particularly impressed with Darryn and Katherine, to go to an event and come away with job opportunities is fantastic."
If a career in sport is your goal then study on one of our Sports Studies courses.
