North East College League Cup Final

New College Durham Men’s Over 18 / Under 18 (Open Age) Team

North East College League Cup Final

After another successful season, New College Durham’s Men’s Football Development Centre have reached the final of the NECL for the fourth year in a row;

2013/14 (U18s) Runners-up.

2014/15 (U18s) Winners.

2015/16 (Over 18s) Winners

2016/17 (Over 18s) Wednesday 17th May 2017.

The road to the final

The first round of the cup took place back in mid-November where New College Durham beat Wolsingham School & Community College 3-2 at home. The next round of the cup resulted in a draw. The following match was played at Chester Le-Street Riverside Stadium against King James 1 Academy - New College Durham won the game 3-0. This win put New College Durham into the semi-final where the team came out with a third home draw when facing local rivals Bishop Auckland College.

The team demonstrated great determination in the next match, they worked as a team and played some quality football to battle their way forward from the initial 1-2 setback. In true New College Durham spirit, the team came out on top, winning 5-3 and booking their place in the final once again.

The Squad

The over / under 18 team is made up of students who have been involved in the FDC for a number of years, as well as students that joined in September after progressing from School. After a year’s hard work, dedication and sheer determination to succeed, on and off the field, they have developed into a fine footballing team, building up a great camaraderie amongst each other and rightfully earning their place in the showcase final.

Date for your diary

The final takes place Wednesday 17th May at Rutherford FC (Gateshead).

The opposition are Newcastle College who New College Durham beat 3-0 in last season’s semi-final. The match is set up to be a real cracker as Newcastle College will be out for revenge having lost out to us last season.

If you would like to come along and support the team there will be a bus leaving the college at 11:45am, though you will have to let Ronnie Thompson (sport development coordinator) know ASAP as there are a limited number of seats. I’m sure the players would appreciate it very much if you could come along and support them, however, if you can’t make it we’ll keep you informed as to how the day/game goes on our return.
