NUFC talk tactics
New College Durham students were given an excellent opportunity to visit Newcastle United’s training ground facilities and meet Newcastle United’s U21 Development Coach Ben Dawson.
The visit gave students an opportunity to listen to Ben talk about his own, Newcastle United’s, and the country's, current Youth Development Philosophies. Students were given an opportunity to ask Ben questions, which many of them had pre-prepared. The questions included how to become an effective and successful coach at elite and participation levels, how he got to where he is now, and what it’s like to be part of a huge club like Newcastle United working alongside former England and Newcastle United great Peter Beardsley.
Amongst the group of students attending the trip were students currently undertaking sport related courses ranging from Level 3 Diplomas to Foundation Degrees. They have taken so much from the trip, which they have been able to use for their current study programmes whilst gaining first-hand experience of the employment opportunities available to them within the sporting sector.
Ashley Adams, Level 3 student said: “The visit of Peter Beardsley to the College in February and the trip to Newcastle United’s training ground has inspired me further in achieving the best grade I can. I know a good grade will help me become a more effective and successful coach just like Ben Dawson.”
