Performing Arts Year 1 students performed Road, by Jim Cartwright, at the beginning of June. Road is the first play written by Jim Cartwright, and was first produced in 1986.

The play explores the lives of the people who live on a road in a deprived working class area of East Durham during the government of Margaret Thatcher, a time of high unemployment in the north of England.

This play gave our drama students a chance to shine and show off the techniques that they had learnt during the year, and it was extremely successful.

We saw over 30 ex-students, including Ross Adams from Hollyoaks, come back to see the show as it marked the 25th year of Jenny Lingham’s directorial expertise at New College Durham.
