Visit to Newcastle United
Students from sport rounded off a number of visits to sports and leisure facilities in the region with a trip to St James Park, home of Newcastle United.
They were joined by our Football Development Centre students, who are a variety of ages and levels. The development centre works in partnership with NUFC Foundation, the charitable arm of Newcastle United Football Club.
The afternoon began with a tour of the stadium, which included a bird’s eye view of the pitch from some of the most expensive seats in the house. From the most expensive to the most prestigious; students were able to sit in the seat reserved for visiting England Managers, emerge from the players tunnel to go pitch side and sit in the home managers seat in the dugout.
The tour also went inside both the home and away teams’ dressing room where the students were given an insight into footballing psychology and the home advantage.
The day concluded with a talk from Giles Sandercock, NUFC Foundation Manager, who discussed the range of work placement and career opportunities available to our students both during and after college.
Steven Bell, Curriculum Manager for Sport, said: “we are very proud of our partnership with both NUFC and SAFC Foundation. Days like this only serve to underline why they are important, not only for students’ experience on the course, but also in terms of their future career development.”
