Course: A-Levels - Biology Chemistry and Mathematics
Previous school: St John’s Catholic School
A-Level student Cameron failed to complete his A-Levels the first time at another sixth form and when he enquired about sitting exams externally at New College Durham he was offered a place to start classes the same day. After hearing about the support students received here he said there was no question of going anywhere else.
Cameron said: “The support I received whilst being a student at New College Durham was unbelievable. The classes were half the size of other sixth forms meaning I received more one-on-one attention - my teachers who were fantastic throughout. They treated me like an adult and were very understanding about my athletic commitments outside the classroom.
“My teachers did everything they could to help me succeed. I wanted to work harder to succeed and I enjoyed coming to class. It's a rare thing when you can say you genuinely loved being taught by all of your teachers but they were fantastic and the best teachers I've ever had.
“The atmosphere was great and I really enjoyed coming to college. The facilities were fantastic and very modern - having a Costa and Starbucks on campus was ideal for my caffeine fix if I was tired from training
“I would like to thank my teachers as they really helped me to believe in myself outside of the classroom which is a very unique thing to have done.”
Cameron is now living in Loughborough as a full-time athlete. He is part of the British Athletics Endurance programme after his successful 2015 season and is alternating between training camps in Kenya during November and January for altitude training and either France or USA in the early summer, while aiming for the Olympic Games in Rio 2016.
A-Levels will enable you to study academic subjects in more depth.
