Course: Foundation Degree Applied Sport & Exercise Science
Previous school attended: Roseberry College
After giving up her job as a wedding planner to focus on her hobby, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Claire returned to full-time education hoping to gain the knowledge and qualifications needed to become a Sports Performance Strength and Conditioning Coach.
“I have been competing in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu for the last four years in the UK. I am currently ranked second in the country for my weight division and I hold an unbeaten record in Submission Wrestling, in which I am ranked number one in the UK. In the past year, I turned professional and have competed in several major international competitions. I also coach classes in the local community.”
“The lecturers in the Sports department are extremely supportive. Since starting at New College Durham, I have had so many more doors opened for me in terms of attending courses and seminars outside of College due to my lecturers informing me of specific strength and conditioning
workshops and seminars that I would benefit from.”
Once she has completed her Foundation Degree in Applied Sport and Exercise Science, Claire intends to complete a top-up degree at a university to follow a specific Strength and Conditioning course.
Claire’s ambition is to start her own business as a Sports Performance Strength and Conditioning coach for professional fighters in the UK, or gain employment with a sports performance company that works with elite athletes.
For those who are unsure about what you want to do, or need further support or qualifications before taking the next step.
