Jenny Beamish Young

Course: A-Level – Applied Science, Environmental Science, Geography
Previous school: Polam Hall School

Jenny described her time at New College Durham as fun, educational and full of opportunities and credits the college in helping her to build her confidence and make the most of opportunities.

She said: “I applied to New College Durham as my brother had studied there and recommended it to me.  I did not want to stay at school and the sixth form centres in my local area did not offer the A-Levels subjects I wanted to study.

“I liked the friendly environment at college and atmosphere that is created between staff and students.  The quality of teaching was excellent and there were good learning and recreational facilities.

“New College Durham helped me to build my confidence, which has enabled me to have many more opportunities to further my career.”

A-Level student Jenny is now studying in Cambridge to become a patisserie chef.  She is currently applying to the Le Cordon Bleu School for the London and Ottawa (Canada) scholarship programmes.
