New College Durham hosted the North East Regional Automotive Inter-College Skills Competition 2022.
Motor vehicle students from NCD, Bishop Auckland College, East Durham College, Newcastle College, Northumberland College and Hartlepool College competed in a range of practical tasks, such as examining and assessing brakes and suspension, inspecting the damper condition and measuring and fitting a brake disc runout.
The six students took to the challenges with confidence and demonstrated a high level of knowledge and problem solving to complete the practical tasks.
A huge congratulations to our very own Level 2 Technical Automotive student, Ben Pannica, for coming out on top. Ben said:
“Thanks to my tutor, Steve. Winning the competition has boosted my confidence and skills!”
The judges praised all of the competitors for their hard work and they all received a goodie bag of tools and a certificate to celebrate their achievement.
Michael White, Automotive Instructor and Assessor at Hartlepool College of Further Education, said:
“The competition demonstrated some fantastic skill, and we were made to feel very welcome. It was very well organised, and it was great to meet the team at NCD and see their excellent facilities. Hartlepool’s competitor, George, really enjoyed the day and getting to experience working in a different environment.”
Liam McGurk, Curriculum Manager for Motor Vehicle Engineering at NCD, said:
“It was great to host the competition on campus. Thank you to the colleges for taking part and a huge well done to Ben for receiving the recognition from the judges for his high level of practical knowledge and skill. We look forward to future events”
