performing arts crush 3Our first year Level 3 Performance Practice students starred in Crush the Musical last week.

After working incredibly hard in rehearsals, the group performed multiple shows of the smashing musical comedy over two days in our Drama Studio. Crush celebrates and disrupts the traditional schoolgirl fiction genre, pleasing the audience with toe-tapping tunes and heaps of charm.

The students enjoyed casting, rehearsing and performing like professionals. They also took on production roles, such as stage manager, sound, set and marketing.

performing arts crush 1Leigh Heighington, who played Judith, commented:

“The experience was very enjoyable. I feel like it allowed me to learn so much for behind the scenes and on stage.”

Imogen Hasselhurst, who played Brenda, said:

“It was really exciting to do a full production, it gave us all a fantastic insight into different roles within the performing arts industry.”

Alaina Harvey, who played Daimler, enthused:

“I really really enojoyed being part of this show as it felt more professional. I am even more excited for returning for second year after the summer!”

The students had fantastic feedback, one audience member said the quality of the performance was above and beyond and they are looking forward to seeing more New College Durham productions.

Gemma Whelam, Performing Arts Lecturer, said:

“The students have been a pleasure to work with, as always. Each student has taken on various roles and the group have remained professional, enthusiastic, and motivated throughout every production.

"We can’t wait to see what our second years bring to the table after the summer, and we look forward to welcoming new students to our performing arts family.”
